Monday nights online are for competitive players. Our State championship-level tournaments attract players who have won major titles and represented their state or Australia, alongside everyone keen to test themselves against a strong field and develop their tournament bridge.
The calendar is a collaboration with Bridge Victoria. We plan the yearly schedule together so tournaments don’t clash, and we cross-promote each other’s tournaments — so a Bridge NSW Monday night draws a strong field from both states, and Bridge Victoria’s Monday night tournaments (Matchpoint Pairs, Teams) are open to you as well.
All tournaments are played on RealBridge, are open to all ABF players, and award red masterpoints. Play typically starts at 7.00 pm and some Mondays are skipped to avoid clashes with major national or international bridge events.
The championship-level tournaments are usually played over four Monday nights. They will be held from April onwards, after completion of most of the Interstate Teams Selection events.
State Online Teams Championship
Standard teams play scored in IMPs — the format used in most major teams tournaments. Teams of up to six, with substitution regulations applying.
State Online IMP Pairs Championship
Pairs, but scored in IMPs against a datum, rather than matchpoints. That changes how you bid and play — safety and solid part-score judgement count for more than squeezing out an overtrick. A good event for pairs preparing for teams and representative bridge.
State Online Board-a-Match Teams Championship
The Board-a-Match format is a teams event which records a win/lose/draw for each board and is somewhat similar to playing matchpoints. Every board counts the same, so a part-score swing matters as much as a slam — a different strategic challenge to normal teams play, and one that rewards close attention on every hand.
An ideal development environment
On RealBridge you can compare the bidding and play at your table to:
- everyone else in the field
- double dummy and alternative lines of play.
This makes it an excellent platform for you, your partner, your teammates, your mentor or others to review, coach and improve your play.
