Bridge NSW announces Board and Council changes

July 28, 2026

Bridge NSW Chair Catherine Chaffey has resigned after more than two years in the role. Michael Green has been appointed Acting Chair, and Sophie Ashton has joined the Board.

Catherine was the inaugural Chair of Bridge NSW and helped guide the transition from the former state body, the NSW Bridge Association, to the new organisation.

Catherine-Chaffey ImageAfter 2 separate one-year terms on the Council of the past State body (NSWBA) and now over 2 years as Chair of the Board of the new state body, Bridge NSW, I am proud of being part of the team that both guided this transition and launched and grew Bridge NSW.

As I am still employed in a senior executive role full-time and don’t intend to retire for a while yet, I decided it was time to lighten my load and to step back from this volunteer role, feeling confident that it was in safe hands moving forward.
Having said that, Bridge NSW continues to need volunteers with business and bridge administration skills and if you have those skills, please do consider volunteering some of your time to this great game!”

The Board extends its heartfelt thanks to Catherine for her leadership and service to Bridge NSW and the wider NSW bridge community.

Michael Green has been appointed Acting Chair while arrangements for a new Chair are considered.

The Board also warmly welcomes Sophie Ashton as its newest member. Sophie is an accomplished international bridge player and a winner of several state and national tournaments. She brings significant strategic, commercial and marketing experience to the Board.

Based in Goulburn, Sophie is the Owner and Director of Goulburn Health Hub, a regional medical centre supporting more than 60 doctors and visiting specialists.

Catherine has also stepped down from the Bridge NSW Council. Satha Arumanayagam has resigned from the Council.
