Celebrating National Volunteer Week 2026

May 20, 2026

Acknowledging the driving force of our community

National Volunteer Week runs from 18 to 24 May, and Bridge NSW wishes to acknowledge the incredible network of volunteers whose dedication ensures our game continues to flourish across the state.

Our game is built upon a culture of voluntary service. From the grassroots level at local clubs to the delivery of statewide initiatives through Bridge NSW, volunteers are the driving force of our community.

The theme this year is “Your Year to Volunteer”. If you have ever thought about giving back, there is no better time to make a contribution – big or small – and play your role in helping the game thrive.

How to contribute at your club

It all starts at your local club. Whether it’s the regular weekly sessions you play, the social events you attend, or the annual club congresses you look forward to, it’s all delivered by your fellow club members donating their time. There are so many ways you can help your club – all you need to do is ask!

It might be as simple as helping set up or pack down an event, contributing a dish to help cater a social gathering, or offering to give a fellow player a lift to the club.

For those with more time – why not enquire at your club about joining the committee or helping organise your club’s annual congress? Perhaps your club would love to introduce a new event or initiative but needs volunteers to drive it forward – you could play a role.

Help with statewide initiatives

The team at Bridge NSW is predominantly made up of volunteers who bring diverse skills, professional experience, and most importantly, a passion for the game to deliver the services that support clubs and players right across New South Wales.

New volunteers are always welcome, and getting involved doesn’t have to mean a big time commitment. We have opportunities ranging from casual, one-off project work (such as helping at one of our state events) through to joining one of five volunteer committees that address priority work. There are many flexible ways to contribute your skills to an area that aligns with your interests and availability.

If you would prefer to contribute at the local level, please have a chat with your club’s committee members – there will be plenty of ways you can contribute, and every bit of support makes a difference.

Celebrate the volunteers at your club

National Volunteer Week is also a wonderful opportunity for clubs and players to acknowledge the local heroes that keep our game thriving in communities right across the state. We encourage you to thank your local volunteers – whether it’s through a regular club email or just saying thanks after you’ve finished a game – let them know their contribution is appreciated.
