Online supervised play trial

August 7, 2025

Helping you transition to play.

Have you completed a bridge beginners’ course, but do not feel ready to play in your club?   Or maybe you have already tried to play and want some extra practice to feel more confident.   Or maybe you have not played in a while and want to ease back into the game.   Yes, life can get in the way of bridge!

Most new players need some help after their initial course.   That can include playing with people of similar skill and getting help with your bidding or play questions.

Online supervised play trial

Supervised sessions are best delivered face-to-face.   And Bridge NSW encourages early players to attend in-person supervised play – if that is an option for you.   But for some it isn’t.

Maybe you cannot make the allocated time, or you prefer to practice remotely.   Maybe your club does not offer supervised play, and there’s no nearby alternative.   Some players simply prefer a few extra practice sessions before they feel ready to play with more experienced people.

To help you, Bridge NSW is trialling online supervised play.   The four-week trial of supervised play will start at 4pm on Sundays from 31 August until 21 September.  Sessions will last approximately 90 minutes.   Come along to one or all four – your choice.

During the 4 week trial, play is free for all participants.

What is online supervised play?

It’s about you playing hands, and having fun playing bridge.   It is not a lesson.   If you missed a lesson or feel you need a repeat of some material we suggest you speak with your teacher or club, or view our free beginners course notes.

In our online supervised play, teachers and more experienced bridge players will be available to respond to your bridge questions.

These sessions will be held on RealBridge – widely used in Australia and around the world.   It aims to replicate the experience at an actual bridge table through live camera and sound.   It is easy-to-use, and no tech skills are needed.   If you have any questions volunteers will guide you through how to use RealBridge.   All players will need a device with a camera, microphone and speakers – most computers, laptops and tablets have this built-in.

No partner is necessary.   But if you wish to play with someone you know, then register together.   A group of friends or family can even register a table.

Anyone wanting to build their skills and confidence before joining a regular club session is welcome.   We intend to have tables of similar experience.

Younger players are particularly welcome.   RealBridge seems a great platform for them.

How to register to play in the trial sessions

If you have an ABF number and use MyABF please register through this MyABF link.

If you do not, or have questions or difficulties registering, please contact education@bridgensw.com.au

Registered players will receive an email with instructions on how to proceed, guidance on using RealBridge, and a link to each session.
